The Delphic Oracle sometimes gave riddling advice designed to be provocative if also non-committal. Impelling the pilgrim to think deeply and ponder choices earnestly was a paramount goal here. Much of the time, however, the Pythia priestess voicing a supposed pronouncement of the god Apollo offered straightforward, ethical advice. I emphasize that the Delphic Oracles advice was ethical in nature, and wise. To further sustain those who doubt any supernatural element in Delphis oracular process, know that the temple employed very intelligent people who received (and surely stored) a vast amount of information about people and events inside and even outside of Greece. Yet for those with a mind open to parapsychology and the possibility of reality far beyond our current conception of it, Oracle number 5 lends support to all of you. And some of the prophecies are simply uncanny. Whatever the truth
of the matter, for 1000 years Delphi was a very special place on earth,
a place it earned with astonishing wisdom. |
